We provide low-cost blood testing kits to trans and non-binary people in the UK. The tests are delivered discreetly by post and can be taken at home (only requiring a fingerprick).

We currently test for:

  • Sex Hormones (Testosterone and Oestradiol)
  • Liver Function (Total Protein, Albumin, Globulin, Alkaline Phosphatase, Aspartate Transferase, Anaine Transferase, Gamma GT and Bilirubin)

We are working on including more in the near future.

Our Research

We are co-creating research with the wider trans community to move the needle forward on trans healthcare. Our current areas of interest include:

  • Understanding the healthcare needs of trans and non-binary people.
  • Characterising the barriers preventing the healthcare needs of trans and non-binary people from being met.
  • Examining the impact unequal access to healthcare has on trans and non-binary people.
  • Designing inclusive healthcare services for trans and non-binary people.

FAQs

Are your kits legit?

Yes. Our tests are carried out using CE-marked kits provided by a third party UKAS-accredited partner laboratories. Our role in the process is liaising with the laboratories (this includes negotiating prices) and handling the forwarding of results.

How do your kits work?

You poke your finger with a lancet and bleed into a small tube. That gets mailed to a lab and tested.

Is the kit packaging discreet?

Yes.

Are your hormone measurements accurate?

Yes. Recent studies have shown that fingerprick blood sampling is a reliable method for measuring hormone levels, typically returning results within 10% of traditional venous samples. Moreover, our partner labs are UKAS accredited, meaning that they meet the same rigorous standards as NHS labs and conduct regular internal quality control assessments..

How long do results take to arrive?

Results typically arrive within 3 working days of posting your sample.

Can you interpret / advise me on my results?

No, results should be interpreted by a medical professional such as a GP. Nothing on this site is medical advice.

Is my data secure?

Data security is a top priority at Sapphic Bison. We have implemented robust measures to protect all information handled through our services. These include secure email communications, encryption of sensitive data, and training for our team.

Do I have to take part in research?

No, taking part in research is an opt-in process.
